Paving in Bangor Will Delay Traffic on Hammond Street this Week

A paving project on Hammond Street in Bangor is slowing traffic for the end of the week.

It's one of those Catch-22 situations. We all want the streets to be in better shape and the potholes to be filled in, but we don't want to be inconvenienced while the issues get fixed. But the fact is, if it's going to be improved, it's going to force us to make some adjustments in how we get around town until it's done.

Keep this in mind Thursday and Friday, August 10th and 11th, as Northeast Paving works on Hammond Street in Bangor. They're doing a large patch of the road, from the intersection with Union Street all the way up to the I95 ramps. The project will run all day, both days, from 6:00 in the morning until 5:00 in the afternoon. Obviously, there will be no parking on Hammond Street until the project is done. Flaggers are in place and there are detours set up to keep traffic flowing. Still, city officials say drivers should expect some delays if they're traveling in the area.

If you live in Bangor or are planning a trip through the city, it's worth the time to check the City of Bangor Facebook page. They post notices on that page when paving projects are about to start, so you can get a heads-up. This could save you time when you maneuver around a project like this one by, for instance, taking Union Street instead of Hammond, before you drive up and get the STOP sign from the flagger. Just remember, if that does happen to you, we all want the roads to be better. A little inconvenience to get nice smooth pavement is worth it.
